I see shii as observing the events rather than participating, and the dreams are those which are as of yet unfullfilled. However, the ending suggests that with the winter snow came the star and hence the vacation of the box of waiting. Which in turn implies happy ending.
So, one vote for happy.

Well, I think that with winter came the vacation of the box, but not for happy reasons. I don't know.
