Here's To Neurosis
I'm awake at 3am watching Woody Allen on TV. He's a young man in the film and I'm amazed at how little he's changed. Granted, gravity is no longer a close personal friend of his. But aside from the droopiness, he's much the same. It's funny how some people seem the same for decades.
Now that I think about it, physically he's different. But I don't think of him as a physical entity. He's more an idea or bundle of almost tangible issues to me. So I guess, the timeless quality I sense in him is neurosis. Unchanged, unbridled neurosis keeps him forever young. Hmm.
I'm sitting up at 3am watching Woody Allen on TV. What's New, Pussycat? Very little.
Goodnight.

Somehow I've managed to get to the ripe [ no, no... I do bathe ] old age of mumble-mumble and I've never watched a Woody Allen film. How is this possible?
Are you a fan? Would you recommend someone who has not been exposed to WA's Neurosis to expose themselves to it ?

Oh yes. If nothing else, you'll feel quite grounded and "normal" after a couple of hours of WA. Compared to his characters very few of us (if any) are more neurotic. It's as if he's the wired little voice in everyone's head. All the stuff we all think but never say out loud come out of his characters' mouths (plus lots of stuff no one thinks except him).
It's a bit like trashy talk-shows. Most people watch and enjoy the fact that someone's life is worse theirs. I watch WA and feel quite sane and low key by comparison.
I think my favorite is Manhattan Murder Mystery. There are quite a few of his films I enjoy as well as a few I just can't sit through. But that's a good thing. If I like everything an artist does, I wonder if they're following some formula. And if they are, what does that say about me that I like their stuff? EEK! Bed time! Sleep deprivation does not a coherent blogger make.

Ah - thanks for that recommendation - I'll keep an eye on the schedules for any WA coming my way, particularly MMM - It sounds like my kind of thing.
