Senility and the Art of Christmas Decorations
Congratulate me. I put up my Christmas tree last night. It's not just any old tree. No. It's a 1960's aluminum Christmas tree. Woohoo!
I haven't had one of these since I was a child. It's been a dream of mine for years to find one and start this shiny, cheesy tradition in my adult life. It's official, I'm in my second childhood. And, I have my best friend K to thank for finding this treasure for me. It's a dream come true. God help me, I need a real life.

Wish I had the inclination to do decorations. Whenever I consider doing anything, I can only think of the time needed to take it all down again.

Pretty tree.
I think the first Christmas Tree I remember my family having was similar - I have a recollection of it being made up of silver and green foil - I guess to look like snow on leaves [well, it was the 70s] and it shed like no-one's business... invoking the daily ritual of vacuumming ... which probably explains why, a short number of years later they replaced it with a totally plastic-y affair.
Still, I remember it as being pretty nice.
There's something about memories of events and things that makes us feel all warm and mushy inside or something. Our safe places. Anyway, like I said when I started typing this brief comment [ you should see my long ones ! ] - pretty tree.
You should never worry about "not having a real life"... it's the people who do not realise they should be worrying about not having a real life that should be worried...
Although, maybe there's something to be said for the bliss of ignorance?!?
Only a few days left! Merry Christmas! Ho! Ho! Ho!
[ Bill, do you have a tree yet? If not you should get one of the "pre-decorated" fibre-optic trees - just take it out the box and plug it in - no effort required! - It's not Christmas without a tree taking up space you don't really have and it's lights radiating the room in a cosy fashion ]

I've threatened to overtake Bill's house next Christmas and decorate it in a suitably gaudy fashion. Be afraid Bill. Be very afraid.

Would that include exterior lights, inflatable snowmen, animated neon signs and dangling Santas ? Or are we talking about just a gaud..=cough=.. festive interiour ?
[ Someone just down the road had a dangling Santa... although, for reasons that escape me it wasn't attempting to gain entry to the house ( like all other dangling Santas ) , rather it was facing out onto the street. All in all, giving the impression that it was speedily leaving the building like some red-suited, half-witted Tarzan impersonator. I suspected that it was representing the "burgler Santa", fleeing with a bag full of ill-gotten swag... a danger during all these holiday seasons... Although, in reality, it was probably a strong gust of wind and a home-owner who hadn't found time to correct the direction change].

Strictly indoor. Heck, I might even decorate Bill.

O Christmas Bill! O Christmas Bill!
How richly Thia has decked thee!
O Christmas Bill! O Christmas Bill!
Your candles shine so brightly!
From base to summit, gay and bright,
There's only splendor for the sight.
O Christmas Bill! O Christmas Bill!
How richly Thia has decked thee!
...
maybe not. :-)
