Gone postal.

Apparently it costs $1.43 a minute to call England from the US. Which meant that a recent phone call from a friend of mine in Georgia cost her $11.44 (roughly £7). The call was partly to thank me for some things I posted, costing me £1 in postage. Bargain!

Although my origami has gone down well, the whole point of the transaction was for a photo of Cheddar. It could have been a lot more easily with an email and a JPEG file.

In fact, getting myself a digital camera has been on my list of things-to-do for a while now. I have several items of junk I'd like to sell on an auction web site and buyers tend to want photos. As an alternative to shelling out for a new digi camera, I'm going to have a try with the photo CD scanning service that some shops do. Either use my regular camera or buy some el-cheapo disposable cameras.

As luck would have it, Chris had to take some photos for her work, but thier digicamera wasn't working. Time to bring out the trusty old conventional camera. The scanning service (Jessops) produced nice results. Two directories full of the same photos (one hi-res, another lo-res) as relatively uncompressed JPEG files, along with a reasonable free viewer which could perform flips and rotations. While it was annoying that the CD itself had no label, the box had a print of the various thumbnails.

Since the trusty-old-conventional-camera was the one we took with us to the Yorkshire Dales, we have some reasonable digital pictures of our holiday. I'll get some cropped and placed here if I ever feel my egomania swell enough that I ever think you'll be interested.

For all these digitisation going on, it's too late to escape paying for stamps. My mug mats have become quite the hit, and now I have to send more.
