This week, I have been annoyed by... Personal finance advertising

So it's an odd thing to be annoyed about, but annoy me it does.

Maybe it's the TV channels I watch, but there seem to be a lot of them about. No need to worry your little head over money, let us sort it out!

"Our aim is to make you richer!" proclaims the advert, as someone runs about a shopping centre getting quotes off the excitable general public. Just pay from ten pounds a month and later on, get a big cheque, no tax and buy-one-get-one-free!

Woohoo! Sounds great! You'd have to be complete wingnut not to take up such a wonderful offer! Even Ms Ask-a-lot-of-difficult-questions is convinced. "I think I'll give them a call!"

So how much would a saver get? Errr... doesn't actually say, just that it's a big cheque and it will make you richer. Getting all your deposits back add one penny is technically making you richer, but that would be one of the worse performing saving schemes ever.

Hang on, their aim is to make you richer. Scrub that last bit.

Even the buy-one-get-one-free is just a bonus paid to those who go as far to buy two accounts. Buggy thinking wins again.

Maybe I should just mute the adverts and get on with life. Grrrr...
