Insomnia, Again

May I say, I'd rather be sleeping than blogging? Actually, I just did. Never mind.

Anyway, I'm at that point in the night where you calculate how much sleep time you'd have left IF you fell asleep at this exact moment. Then you don't fall asleep and feel compelled 10 minutes later to calculate all over again. I've lost track of how many times I've calculated remaining sleep time. Maybe I should have been counting the calculations too.

That smoke you smell is my brain over-heating.


  • I tend not to have the insomnia problem... I used to when I was in my late teens - early twenties. Although, probably my solution to the problem is no better than the problem itself.

    I tend to refuse to go to bed until I've noticed that I've started to become one of those "nodding dogs" people put on the back shelf in their car... at least... they do in England. Basically to the point of collapse [ although, I have - from time to time - been known to have been watching a show and not noticing that it had finished and been replaced by something else... feeling generally confused until I realised I'd been asleep for (anywhere between 10 minutes and 3 hours) ]

    One of the things I used to do, was lie in bed with the tv on, but the sound off. For some reason this would send me to sleep. Even if it was an interesting show that was on. I think the trick is telling the brain "You don't want to be thinking right now." and once it shuts down... sleep follows... well... for me it used to.

    [Worrying about "how much time left for sleeping" is a never-ending cycle. Just get up, say "sod it" and boogie on down for a while... or something along those lines. Do something to relax you and then try sleeping again. um. You probably do all that anyway, but I assure you, if you do nothing else, you must say "Sod it!" - "sod it" is the most important part of the whole thing. :-) ]
